"Robotic surgery comfort in myoma surgery"

Prof.Dr. Dr. Ahmet Göçmen said, "Uterine fibroids are the most common benign (non-cancerous) tumors in the female reproductive system, developing from the smooth muscle fibers of the uterus. They are usually too small to be diagnosed on physical examination and may be one or more. "It's common in women aged 40," he said.

Medicana Ataşehir Hospital Gynecological Oncology Specialist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Göçmen gave information about the common fibroids in the female reproductive system. Göçmen stated that although the size and frequency of fibroids vary according to age, they may shrink with menopause. Göçmen said, "Uterine fibroids are the most common benign (non-cancerous) tumors in the female reproductive system, developing from the smooth muscle fibers of the uterus. They are usually too small to be diagnosed on physical examination and may be one or more. It is common in women aged 40 years," he said.

"Symptoms vary according to the number and size of the tumor"
prof. Dr. Göçmen continued his words as follows: "If the tumor is very small or if the patient is in the menopause period, symptoms may not be observed. Myoma symptoms are generally excessive bleeding during menstrual periods, pain felt in the pelvis or lower back, increased urination, pain during intercourse, and difficulty in conceiving." said.

prof. Dr. Göçmen said, "The surgeon performs the surgery with the guidance of 3D real images on the surgeon's console in the operating room. Another surgeon at the head of the patient helps the surgeon at the console by including the necessary instruments or materials during the operation. "The surgeon, who can move, performs the operation with great care. The fibroids (myomectomy) or the uterus (hysterectomy) are removed from the small incisions in the patient's abdomen, and the operation is terminated." prof. Dr. Göçmen stated that an operation was performed with a single small incision in the belly button of the patient to remove the non-cancerous uterus.

Stating that the most important advantage of robotic surgery to myoma surgery is that the instruments can be moved freely, regardless of the size of myoma, Prof. Dr. Göçmen said, "In uterine fibroids, robotic surgery offers a safer treatment process compared to open surgery and laparoscopic surgery. The main advantages of robotic surgery both during and after surgery are as follows; patients experience less pain compared to open surgery and laparoscopic surgery, and more postoperatively. "There are fewer complications, which leads to a faster recovery process and shortens the hospitalization and discharge times. Patients can return to their daily lives very quickly. There is less blood loss compared to open surgery and laparoscopic surgery," he said.
